Once upon a time, there was a boy named Brendan and a girl named Genesis. He was from NY and she was from Colorado, but their paths intersected in 2020 at Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY.
Genesis and Brendan served as leaders for Intervarsity Christian Fellowship on Hofstra's campus, as well as for an off-campus Ministry called the Garden in Elmont, NY.
Within these circles, their friendship grew...to the point where Brendan felt led to pray for Genesis. After 10 long months of prayer and discernment, side-ways hugs, avoidant stares, and many "date-but-not” dates, the Lord allowed Brendan to pursue Genesis romantically, but only after their ministry on campus was complete. Following, this, he presented his desire to pursue Genesis with the goal of marriage, giving her one week apart from him, to pray and seek counsel.
One bright, almost yellow, May 11th afternoon, the two met on a bench in the Hofstra gardens. Brendan, looking deep into her mocha brown eyes re-emphasized/presented his intentions and his wanting to pursue her. Looking back at him, she replied, "I accept!" Being relieved, he took out the roses, he had bought in faith earlier that day. They (the roses) were her favorite color, yellow, which reflected no only the afternoon they were in, but the joy they both felt as they wanted to embark on this godly journey together.
Fast-forward to now, where you are reading this, it's been almost three years since that park bench. The boy and the girl are still greatly in love and are planning a wedding, that you're invited to!!! How is this so? Well, it's been three years full of God's faithfulness, grace, patience, love, and mercy towards us and to each other that we attribute to this success. While there are hills and valleys, we trust the One who is Lord over and in both.
Our story begins and will end with the gospel...the ultimate example, not of affection, but of love. The love that Jesus offers (not as the world does). The love that came down and humbled itself to be subject to death for the Will of the Holy God. That Christ's love for the church is the ultimate example of love, and submission to the Father. We want our story...our marriage to reflect this relationship between Christ and the church...not only in willingness to die, but in being more and more like Him.
